What video formats does this compressor support?
You can drop in MP4, WebM, MOV and most common video formats. The output is always MP4 (H.264 + AAC), which plays on every device.
What is CRF and how does it affect quality?
CRF (Constant Rate Factor) controls H.264 quality. Lower values (18–22) give high quality at larger file sizes; higher values (28–40) produce smaller files with more compression. CRF 28 is a good balanced default.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The entire compression runs inside your browser using WebAssembly (ffmpeg.wasm). Your video never leaves your device.
Why is the first compression slow?
On the first run the browser downloads the ffmpeg WebAssembly engine (~10 MB) and caches it. Subsequent compressions in the same session are much faster.
How much can I reduce the file size?
Results vary by source quality and settings. Re-encoding a high-bitrate video at CRF 28 to 720p commonly reduces size by 60–85%. Setting 360p at CRF 35 can shrink a 100 MB video to under 10 MB.
